John BynerJohn Byner rose to fame during the 1966 edition of TV's "The Garry Moore Show." He went on to join the supporting ensemble on the 1967 summer-replacement weekly "The Steve Allen Comedy Hour." Five years later, John headlined his own five-week summer series. He has appeared as a regular on the TV sitcoms "The Practice" (1976) and "Soap" (1977), and can be spotted in such lampoonish theatrical films as "Transylvania 6-5000" (1985). An accomplished impressionist, he provided the voice for the Jackie Mason-type aardvark in Depatie-Freleng's "Ant and the Aardvark" cartoon shorts.
John Byner starred in the two hour television movie "In The Heat of The Night" and was chosen to star in the final episode of the long running CBS series. He co-starred with Mary Tyler Moore in another CBS special "A Comedian's Salute to Ed Sullivan." John had been invited onto the Ed Sullivan show more than 17 times. He won his first ACE award for the "Bizarre Show," which aired for six seasons. His second ACE award was for the A&E series "Comedy On The Road." He co-starred as Dr. Frankenstein in the PBS EMMY nominated special "Lamb Chop and the Haunted Studio" starring Shari Lewis. To add to this already impressive list, John Byner was seen in the role of Cotton Dunn on "Silk Stalkings" for both CBS and USA networks as well as hosting "The Bowery Boys" series on the A&E cable network. He also co-starred in the TNT movie "Big Time." John will always be remembered as Detective Donahue in the long running series "Soap" on ABC. He is always a favored guest of David Letterman, Jay Leno and Tom Snyder. John Byner has made millions laugh over the years. He has shared the stage with such luminaries as: Herb Alpert, Carol Burnett, James Ingram, Anthony Newley, Jeffrey Osborne, Buddy Rich, Diana Ross, Frank Sinatra and Mel Torme. He headlines in Las Vegas and Reno several times a year and is a timeless, versatile performer.
