Damian Whitewood
For the past fourteen years Damian has performed his life-long passion to millions of people around the world, and has taken what was once a boyhood hobby and made it his career!
Born and raised in Perth, Western Australia, Damian was first introduced to ballroom dancing at the age of ten by his older brother Jason. Jason took ballroom dancing lessons mainly to impress a girl and had no idea what impact it would have on his younger siblings life. Damian’s mother was also a competitive ballroom dancer during her childhood growing up in London, England. It is therefore no surprise where Damian’s love and dedication to dance comes from. The competitive spirit and drive soon set in and at fourteen Damian was travelling around Australia competing in ballroom and latin competitions. It didn’t take long for him to conquer the Australian competitive scene and then to start taking on the global competitors and studying with the best overseas teachers. Damian collected a plethora of titles along the way. National State Champion, Australian Champion, Australasian Champion and Australian Representative at many world competitions. In 2001 the hit dance production Burn The Floor was taking the world by storm and Damian had the pleasure of joining the company. Burn The floor has sold over four million tickets in over thirty countries and one hundred and sixty cities worldwide. In 2009 Damian accomplished a life long dream performing on Broadway with Burn The Floor as a lead dancer. The show opened to rave reviews, had a sold out season, and was the talk of New York City. After closing on Broadway Damian’s next stop was Hollywood and prime-time television, partnering the world’s most famous blonde bombshell Pamela Anderson on ABC’s top rating show, Dancing With The Stars. Damian and Pamela were not only a huge success on the dance floor but also became lasting friends and have since traveled the world together dancing and performing their memorable routines. Damian has also guest appeared on Dancing With The Stars in Israel, Argentina and Mexico along with So You Think You Can Dance Australia and Holland. Dancing With The Stars Australia then came calling and Damian has been runner up in 2012 and 2013 first with Danielle Spencer and then with songstress Tina Arena. Dance has made Damian feel like the luckiest guy in the world. To be able to communicate with so many people through the universal language of dance alone has been unforgettable. Damian would like to say a heartfelt thank you to his family and friends for all their love, all their support and above all for their unwavering belief in his talents and dreams. |
